Currently Loving…Modern Accessories for the dog

06.29.12

Well, we got a dog!  I am so excited to welcome our new chocolate brown labradoodle to the family.  He was born Tuesday and will be home in a few weeks!  I, of course,  have been spending a lot of time looking for the perfect dog accessories to complement our home.  The dog bed below gives you a rough idea of what I am custom making for the new puppy to hang out on.  I chose the Stone Textile Multi Diamond print.   Since our cotton fabric is machine washable they are great for dog beds…see more fabric here

Collars, Bone, Dog Bowls, Spike Dog Bowls, Leash, Toy, Treat Container, Stone Textile Diamond Print Fabric (can purchase here)

*please note that we do not design dog beds (at the moment!) You can always purchase Stone Textile fabric and have one custom made.

Color watch: Navy + Copper

06.27.12

Last week I was playing around with some colors and fabric for my Fall collection.  I took an instagram of a navy cotton swatch  and a copper woven swatch and was really loving the combination (maybe because Instagram makes photos look so great).  Since last week, I have literally seen this color combination pop up all over.  It made me excited about the new designs.  The top right image is my instagram from last week and the photos below were taken while exploring the grounds of The Round Top Antiques Fair.

Round Top Antiques Fair…

06.25.12

East coasters have Brimfield, West Coasters have The Rose Bowl,  and in Texas we have Round Top.  On Saturday, we woke up very early and within a few hours we were in the middle of nowhere Texas.  There is something so thrilling about antique fairs and I have always loved  hunting for special pieces that complement a room and tell a story.  This time I was searching for old suitcases to use for a  client’s guest room project and I was also helping a friend find great accent pieces for his new restaurant.  It was a very successful trip take a look at some of the fun treasures we found….

The suitcase on the top right is one of seven purchased!  Looking forward to seeing the project come together…

I also have a slight obsession with old apothecary/file drawers.  The one in our current entryway was a vintage find!  It seemed like every vendor had one to sell.  Here are a few favorites…

Love this image from Pinterest. The old drawers make such a statement when  surrounded by modern furniture.

The Young Artist…

06.22.12

I recently came across something very interesting.  I have always been very drawn to abstract art (see my Art Pinterest board here for proof!) so when I found out that the paintings below were done by artist Aelita Andre, AGE 4, I did not know what to think!  The 4 year old, Australian artist, has received a lot of praise over the past few years (yes, she already has been painting since she was 2!) and has even been called a young Jackson Pollock.  I would love to hear your opinions!  What do you think about this young artist?

Keeping It Local…Loot Vintage Rentals

06.20.12

I consider myself very lucky to now call Austin home.  To be honest,  moving here from Los Angeles made me a little nervous.  I was worried that I would  miss the fast paced lifestyle I was accustomed to.    I was wrong!  Austin has definitely proven itself and surprises me everyday.  It seems like there is always a new restaurant  to try, a new shop to explore, and a new small business owner to meet and the best part about it that everyone wants to help everyone else succeed.   I really could not imagine launching Stone Textile in any other city.  Today will be the first of many “Keeping It Local” posts where I highlight a favorite Austin based company so you can learn about the wonderful people that also call Austin home.

I had the pleasure of touring the Loot Vintage Rentals warehouse this week.  Anna and her sister-in-law Rhoda started their company last year and have rapidly  become one of the go to wedding vendors in Austin.  They source “the best of the best” in antique furniture and accessories and rent them out for local weddings, events, and photoshoots (genius idea!).  We are in the beginning stages of planning our next photo shoot and I knew that I wanted to incorporate vintage furniture into the mix.   Take a look at a few of the pieces I am thinking about for the shoot and make sure to visit  the Loot Vintage Rentals website for more beautiful things.
